Be Prepared 3.29.15

Being prepared… After my conversion I would always ask God what am I supposed to do, what is my purpose? My answer always seemed and seems to be “be prepared.” After 16 + years of trying to figure out what this is for “Be prepared” (Thinking it was for an official position or specific ministry). I finally have a solid answer.

We are, I am, to live such a lifestyle so that I am ready to meet Jesus at every turn, at any moment of the day. This is living in the spirit so I will not fulfill the lusts or the desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:16). When I prepare by getting into God’s presence through prayer, devotions, reading His word and the like I’m being prepared to see God work at every turn in that day. I’m keeping my focus on the cross and putting the world behind me. But not just the cross, I also should be looking toward the resurrected Christ and the blessed hope, the appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ. (Titus 2:11-14). If I am not walking in this kind of lifestyle I can miss God’s blessings or even worse the ability to bless someone else. If am consumed with worldly desires, e.g. the television, sports or anything that consumes me from seeing God at every turn of that day I am not being prepared for that day.

If we are, or I am prepared to face Jesus every day, then I will be ready when God invites me to join Him in His work. Image if you were looking to find where Jesus was working at your work place, on the bus, at the store, at your school or any place you are or will be going to, and the opportunity arose. You could see a life changed, encouraged, a family or friend reconciled, or something more wonderful than you thought could happen. O what joy and wonderment you could receive if you or I were always prepared to meet Jesus at every turn. Being prepared is not just being prepared for full time ministry but for every day ministry. The lay ministry in which Jesus meets us at a predetermined time with someone in need of His service.

When we or I am prepared for such an occasion I could usher in God’s Shekinah glory and experience the wonderful work of God’s compassion. This is a lifestyle worth living.

Here is a diagram from Henry Blackaby’s ‘Experiencing God’. (http://www.blackaby.net/expgod/ ).

SEVEN REALITIES OF EXPERIENCING GOD

  1. God is always at work around you.
  2. God pursues a continuing love relationship with you that is real and personal.
  3. God invites you to become involved with Him in His work.
  4. God speaks by the Holy Spirit through the Bible, prayer, circumstances, and the church to reveal Himself, His purposes and His ways.
  5. God’s invitation for you to work with Him always leads you to a crisis of belief that requires faith and action.
  6. You must make major adjustments in your life to join God in what He is doing.
  7. You come to know God by experience as you obey Him and He accomplishes His work through you.

Being prepared for the day can help you experience God today.

I am crucified with Christ

There is so much to Galatians 2:20:

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (KJV)

I am crucified with Christ. I am dead with Christ yet not I. If we live with the idea of I die daily, we are mortifying the old nature by placing it on the cross daily. The “yet not I” comes in to remind us that the old nature should be crucified and Christ is now living in me. How does this appear to us in a daily walk with Christ?

It is progressive sanctification though the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. When the old nature raises up again, (a thought, an action, or an old carnal memory) the Holy Spirit brings it into the Light so we can recognize it as our sin nature and can nail it to the cross. When we confess it we are nailing it to the cross. I am then practicing mortifying the old nature by crucifying it with Christ. This will allow us to live in the newness of life. Therefore the dark burden that would hinder us is now crucified and buried. Now the new man is resurrected with Christ to walk in the Light.

Let us walk as lights Ushering in God’s Shekinah glory remembering, the life which we now live in the flesh we live by the faith of the Son of God, Who loved us enough to bare our burdens, to give Himself for us, so we can walk with Him daily in victory.

In His service,

Greg

Accepted by Him

In my morning devotions I came across 2 Corinthians 5:9, “Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.” And the word accepted rang true. I thought in the sense of recovery as we are all in recovery. One may ask. “How am I in recovery?” We are all recovering from our sin nature. It is the battle field just as much so, as the addict battles with an addiction.

The word accepted is most probable way to the road to anyone’s addiction. When we were younger we were looking to find “our self” and wanted to be accepted by our peers. One of the worst things that could happen to me was to be embarrassed in front of a large group of acquaintances. (Acquaintances, as how can I defend myself when they do not know the truth about me.) The best thing to do, to avoid those situations, was to get in close with those peers no matter what it takes.

Therefore, we labor to be accepted by our peers. This road may lead to disaster. When I was growing up the road was alcohol. The best way to be accepted was to see who could “hold their liquor”. This was also hard labor, because most would find out that too much liquor would eventually come back up. After a period of time drinking like that, you usually practiced in their presence or in their absence just so you could be accepted by them.

Now as new creatures in Christ, how much more should we practice doing the right things, so we can be accepted by God? God, Who both sees us when we are present or absent from our peers? In recovery from our old nature we must seek a higher goal and look for our acceptance from our LORD and Saviour. We can do this by facing our Lord Jesus Christ. When facing Him there may be many personal aspects. For me, it is the cross before me the world behind me no looking back, no looking back… But in this devotional I was reminded of the CMA’s four fold gospel doctrine; The Saviour, the Sanctifier, the Healer, and the Coming King. This is more than just keeping the cross before me thinking and pondering on “I dare not lay one more sin on my Saviour.” But knowing He is more than the One Who bore my sins and has given me Salvation.

When we face our Lord, in all four areas of the four fold gospel message, we can find a three dimensional truth in each area of the four fold gospel message:

First, the Saviour, has saved our body and soul from the wrath and wages of sin, while He has regenerated our once dead spirit that we my live for His greater purpose.

Second, the sanctifier, Jesus sanctifies or sets us apart for His good pleasure. Our body becomes His temple, our soul longs to live for truth being set apart from worldly desire, and our new regenerated spirit leads our soul to be accepted for a higher calling

Third, the Healer, Jesus can heal our body from the destruction of sin, sickness and disease. Our soul from our old desires, emotions and thoughts which can lead us down a path of demise; and the spirit which was once dead, now grows healthier and can thrive in communion with the Holy Spirit.

Fourth, our Coming King. “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; {glorious…: Gr. the appearance of the glory of the great God, and of our Saviour Jesus Christ} (Titus 2:13 KJV)”. Oh, how should we labour to mortify the old man and live in the acceptance of the new man (man being mankind here) toward our Coming King and Saviour, Jesus Christ; knowing Titus 2:13 says it will be a glorious appearing.

I feel like Paul in so many ways, e.g. I find a law that when I would do good evil is always present with me. And “But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. (1 Corinthians 9:27 KJV). Here Castaway is from a Greek word dealing with metalurgy, the metal which is not suitable for the purpose it was made. Therefore I labor, that, whether present or absent, I may be accepted by Him.

Life is a journey we all want to be accepted and not rejected, but where is the value and your need for acceptance measured from, is it the world or is it the Kingdom of God?  I find a greater value in knowing that God accepts me. I can live in right relationship with Him and His children rather than trying to live upside down in a world being deceived and misguided.

In Christ’s service,

Greg Dodge

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:1-2 KJV)

May God bless you and keep you. May He be gracious to you and give you peace.

Abraham Believed GOD

Abraham believed GOD, Hebrews 11:6-9) The Bible also says “For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. (Romans 4:3 KJV also see Hebrews chapter 11).” When we have faith in our God, we will go where He leads us. Sometimes He tells us Go to the land of Canaan or Orlando. Abraham believed GOD and went, not knowing where exactly or what would lay ahead. Sometimes faith in God, (an all knowing God) means not knowing where you will be lead; but it (faith), knows the One Who is leading, a loving Father Who cares for you more than any other. Faith becomes trusting in Him and knowing He always has the best interest for you. Faith is also beneficial to our character. Faith was counted unto Abraham for righteousness. Faith is therefore a character builder. It also leads us to trust. Can you think of any other character faith builds?

How do we get to this point in our faith? For some it is stepping out on faith that is on a scripture verse and then applying to the situation. After the results are tallied and we find God’s word to be true we begin to trust with blind faith. A soft answer turns away wrath.  Have you ever tried that? I have and it worked. Spiritual truths applied in the content it was meant for, WORKS. That is because God’s word is true, (John 17:17). As we apply Our Heavenly Father’s word to our lives we begin to build character, godly character which is the final outcome of our faith.

Let God lead you every day. It will build godly character in areas like trust, righteousness and …

Seeking God’s Will

When we or I was a babe in Christ it would seem all my prayers were answered. It was like my loving Father was holding my hand through every situation and circumstance that I was going through. He was teaching me His will. As I began to grow by reading His word, going to church and hearing His word, fellowshipping with His children and meditating on His word in prayer I began to know parts of His will, e.g.(1 Thessalonians 4:3, 5:18; Hebrews 10:36; 2 Timothy 1:1; 1 Peter 4:2, 19). Then it seemed my prayers were not being answered all the time. Sometimes I felt that God just did not care anymore. I was not feeling His presence while praying, it was if I was out of touch with Him or maybe the whole prayer thing was just coincidences; but I continued on by saying I have to many Spiritual markers of answered pray to just be coincidences. I began to learn when we delight in God’s truth we are becoming one with God and His will. Therefore He no longer needed to answer the prayers when I already knew God’s will in a situation. Lord should I get a divorce? God’s word says that He hates divorce Malachi 2:16. Therefore I need not ask for I know His will.

When we line up with His will were are walking with God and we may not always feel that His presence is with us or we may have occasional feelings of His presence in our prayer life. We are becoming one with God and maturing in our Christian walk. Our new lifestyle becomes a life of freedom, liberty and delightfulness in Christ and His finished work. We know we cannot do anything good without Him, (John15:5; Isaiah 64:6). Just cease to function except through Him, yield to the Holy Spirit as the life flowing sap of the vine which reaches the branches and flows to the tips to produce new life, new leaves, flowers and eventual fruit.

I am determined to no longer live my life to the will of mankind but to the will of God, Who has given me new life, new liberty and a delightful spirit to follow after His will. Let us continue seeking His will and to become one with Christ as He is one with the Father.

That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. (1 Peter 4:2, 19 KJV).
