9 Pithy and Profound Certain in uncertainty

Certain in uncertainty. This is the spiritual walk in the Kingdom of God. How can this be? Let us look at some scriptures.

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. (James 4:13-14 NKJV)

We know not what tomorrow will bring, but we do know God’s word says in Romans 8:28, all things word together for the good… We can have certainty in uncertainty. James goes on to say,

Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” (James 4:13-15 NKJV)

This is walking out our faith in God’s theocracy. God is in control. When we realize and accept that He is Sovereign over His Providence, we can walk in confidence facing uncertainty. God loves us and only wants the best for His children.

Lord whatever this day may bring may I go through it with You knowing that in uncertainty You are there to save eternal souls from destruction and lead them into an abundant life with You. Help me walk in Your ways and hear Your still small voice that I may do Your will today and every day henceforth. In Jesus name. Amen.

In Christ,

Eternal Souls

When you are walking down town, through a store or mall, or at an event where there are lots of people, what do you see? Just women and men shopping, going to lunch or who cares? Or maybe you just don’t think about it at all. How do you think GOD sees them? I think He sees them as either eternal souls who will spend eternity with Him, or walking dead men heading for eternal separation and it grieves Him. Walking dead men with an eternal soul. We all have an eternal soul, where are you leading yours? Let us not forget we were enemies of God. But God has made a way.

                             if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son,                                                                 much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also                                              joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.                     {atonement: or, reconciliation}

Thank God He has a plan of salvation for His eternal creation. But what about those who reject this His salvation?

Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

Can you see the masses of eternal souls walking into eternal damnation? Death reigned! It still reigns today. Someone needs to wake up these walking dead men. Will you do it?

But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead,

“For the wages of sin is death,” BUT GOD! The second part of Romans 6:23 says, “but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our LORD.” It is only through God’s gift. Gift here is not a birthday gift. The Greek word here for gift means “an undeserved gift from God to man” is eternal life. This is more than good news it is:

much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) {by one man’s…: or, by one offence}

Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

{by the offence…: or, by one offence} {by the righteousness…: or, by one righteousness} For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 5:1-21 KJV)

We can see here a divison. By one man’s sin, offence, disobedience abounded unto condemnation and death.

But by One, Jesus, the free gift, abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness, obedience, and unto justification of life.

Now I ask you for future reference, when you are walking down town, through a store or mall, or at an event where there are lots of people, what do you see?

Will you see eternal souls heading for heaven or    hell?

Lord God place in me the will to tell others, the Kingdom of God is at hand. Do you know …where you will go when you die?

In Christ,

Greg

8 Pithy and Profound God is Love

The one who does not love has not known God. For God is love. (1 John 4:8 MKJV)

And we have known and believed the love that God has in us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. (1 John 4:16 MKJV)

I in them, and You in Me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that You have sent Me and have loved them as You have loved Me. (John 17:23 MKJV)

Jesus answered and said to him, If a man loves Me, he will keep My Word. And My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him. (John 14:23 MKJV)

The life of faith is all about knowing God dwells in you and through His Spirit we are given the power to love all people. Love is God, give the world love and you give them God.

I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. As I have loved you, you should also love one another. (John 13:34 MKJV)

Love is God, give the world love and you give them God.

In Christ,

Greg

Pride the root of all evil – Full Version

I have found Pride to be the root of all evil. It will stand up and command other feelings to be shut off and others to raise up. For instance, if you were embarrassed you might find that pride shuts the door on reason only to invoke angry and alert all defense mechanisms to arise and then command you to strike out at the person or situation that first provoked the outrage. Can you think of such a time in your life when pride has taken you into its possession? Let us look at Naaman in 2 kings Chapter 5 verses 1-15. (The scripture is quoted at the end of this study and I highlighted the points covered).

First Naaman was the captain of the army in Syria and he “was a great and exalted man with his master”. He was also a mighty man of valour, but he had leprosy.

When Elisha heard that the King of Israel rent or tore his clothes, he asked the King, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him now come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel”.

When Naaman shows up at the door of Elisha’s home in his chariot with all his greatness and position of being a great commander and an exalted man of the Syrian army, what do you think he expected? Elisha a great prophet and the man of God to greet him. But he doesn’t even get that he gets a servant, as if to say he is at the same level as a servant, and not even a servant of Syria but a servant of another nation. And what did Elisha’s servant tell him to do? “And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come to you, and you shall be clean.”

I would like to point out several things that might have went through his mind:

  • First, He is greeted by a servant he must have been reduced from a man of valour to a servant in stature.
  • Second, he is told to wash in a dirty river, when Syria had more beautiful and clean rivers.
  • Third, he expected the man of God to perform the miracle in his sight this would also provide verification of the miracle.
  • Fourth, he was with a company of men. He was the commander. He was used to giving the commands. Now some foreign servant is telling me what to do?

Just these thoughts could raise up pride to shut down the heart and cause anger to begin to boil over; and this is just what happens listen to his response. “But Naaman was angry, and went away. And he said, Behold, I said within myself, He will surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place and recover the leper. Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? May I not wash in them, and be clean? And he turned and went away in a rage.”

He said within himself He will surely come. He was expecting Elisha the prophet a man of the most high God. This would be the level in which a man of my stature deserves, equal to the man of GOD. And not only that but he should call on the most high God in my presence. I am worthy to be in God’s presence. He also expected Elisha with a wave of his hand over the infected areas to heal him instantly, so he could go home healed with dignity and honor. But now he was supposed to go to a filthy river and most likely be seen and mocked at by those who may be at the river getting water or maybe even washing their clothes. Can you hear them calling out. Look he is unclean! UNCLEAN! And those who did not see him would hear the screams of UNCLEAN! And would join in yelling, UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN! How embarrassing would that be? But that’s not all that went through his mind he thought of the rivers in his precious homeland, “Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? May I not wash in them, and be clean?” Did you notice he believed the rivers in his homeland were better than the rivers in Israel? He was full of pride and angry and rage took over to the point he turned away from the blessing of God.

We do the same thing today when Pride raises up and shuts the door on the Holy Spirit’s still small voice and we miss the blessings of God. Pride can grieve the Holy Spirit or even worse quench the Holy Spirit. When we grieve the Holy Spirit we are actually making God sad. Don’t you grieve at a funeral or when your child or someone you love does not listen to you than gets hurt in some way or disappoints you in their decisions. The list can go on…

Naaman had a type of inner voice as we have with the Holy Spirit. His servant was there to bring him some much needed council. “And his servants came near and spoke to him and said, My father, if the prophet had told you to do a great thing, would you not have done it? How much rather then, when he says to you, Wash and be clean?” Naaman had to make a decision, he was at a fork in the road, and may have thought, should I stand firm on my own pride or listen to words of reason? I think Naaman’s leprosy made him humble enough to listen to his servant. His condition may have been the only thing that saved him from his prideful nature. So, “he went down and dipped seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God. And his flesh came again like the flesh of a little boy, and he was clean.” Can you image going through a tragedy that places you in a position of being less than normal person in today’s society? A reject. UNCLEAN! …

And now you were normal, but you would still have to live with some skeptics. Didn’t you use to have leprosy? Didn’t you go to prison? Aren’t you divorced? Did you lose your job? How would you deal with it? Would you go into a corner until you die or stand up, start over and give God the glory for turning your life around? Would you be thankful or bitter? Naaman was thankful and gave glory to God. “And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company. And he came and stood before him. And he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. And now please take a blessing from your servant.” He was going to give the only blessing he knew how to give Elisha, material things.

When we listen to the Holy Spirit and not to pride we can begin to eradicate the roots of pride. First identify pride for what it is, a weed! Yes it is like a weed in your heart that can take over the precious garden which the Holy Spirit is trying to nurture and to help you bring forth the fruit and abundant life God so wants you to have. When pride raises its ugly head cut it off. Listen to the Holy Spirit and walk into the blessings God has for you. After all if Naaman would have listened to his prideful nature, he would have gone back to Syria in a diseased condition lonely, isolated from society and quarantined from the things he may love.

Which path will you choose? Put the world behind you and the cross before. Don’t be deceived by pride. Name it and eradicate it. After all as children of God we are more the conquerors. Stake a claim in God’s word and live in it and by it.

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39 NKJV)

Listen to God’s still small voice and be overcomers.

In Christ,

Greg

And Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great and exalted man with his master, because the LORD had given deliverance to Syria by him. He was also a mighty man, but a leper. And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and captured a little girl out of the land of Israel. And she waited on Naaman’s wife. And she said to her mistress, I wish my lord were with the prophet in Samaria! For he would recover him from his leprosy. And one went in and told his lord, saying, This and this said the girl from the land of Israel. And the king of Syria said, Go, go in and I will send a letter to the king of Israel. And he departed and took with him ten talents of silver and six thousand of gold, and ten changes of clothing. And he came in with the letter to the king of Israel, saying, And now when this letter has come to you, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to you. And you shall recover him of his leprosy. And it happened when the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to recover a man from his leprosy? For consider now, and see, for he is coiling himself toward me. And it happened when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, Why have you torn your clothes? Let him now come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel. And Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come to you, and you shall be clean. But Naaman was angry, and went away. And he turned and went away in a rage. And his servants came near and spoke to him and said, My father, if the prophet had told you to do a great thing, would you not have done it? How much rather then, when he says to you, Wash and be clean? And he went down and dipped seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God. And his flesh came again like the flesh of a little boy, and he was clean. And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company. And he came and stood before him. And he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. And now please take a blessing from your servant. (2 Kings 5:1-15 MKJV)

7 Pithy and Profound Pride is the root of all evil

Pride the root of all evil.

Pride stands at the door of your heart. You can feel pride raise up when you get defensive. It immediately closes the door to your heart and then nothing else matters; even if you know the other person is right; pride says. “Don’t listen”. You stand agitated and unsettled.

When God is knocking at your heart pride says, “Don’t listen” and the humble Spirit of God is shut out. You miss his blessing. Pride is the root of all evil. Eradicate it before you miss another blessing from our Lord and Saviour.

Lord make me a man/woman after Your own heart and give me your peace that I may rest in You, help me eradicate the root of pride which shuts the door on You. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (Matthew 11:29 KJV)

The Holy Spirit and you Sspirit Part 4b

The Holy Spirit will give you gifts as He wills and nurture your character. In Galatians 5:22, 23, the fruit of the Spirit and in 1 Corinthians 12:7—11 the gifts of the Spirit.

First the fruit of the Spirit is “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV)

I cannot do justice to both of these in one or even two sermons. Just know we are to bring forth the fruit of the Spirit to be Christ like. I believe God sanctifies us in each area by cutting and sanding and smoothing our rough edges so we can refract God‘s Shekinah glory to others. There are many examples like, Romans 5:1-5; 2 Corinthians 1:3-11, or even 2 Peter 1:4-11. Let God renew your mind, through His word, to develop Christ like characteristics in you.

Second the gifts of the Spirit are manifested to the believer as He wills. (1 Corinthians 12:7-11 KJV) say:

“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;  To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;  To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.” (1 Corinthians 12:7-11 KJV)

Holy Spirit’s Gifts are to witness to the world and to glorify God.

First we have a word of wisdom. Here I believe the Holy Spirit imparts in the believer a prophetic word.

(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. {before him: or, like unto him} (Romans 4:17 KJV)

Calls those things which be not as though they were. I was at a Bible Study one time when the Pastor prayed over us and I got an impression that Justin would be leaving on March 8. I took a leap of faith and told him. This was 3 or 4 weeks away and it did not appear that he was going anywhere Monday March 8th. But God made it happen in such a way that man could not have seen it in the natural realm and an experience that I won’t forget.

Some may say it is the ability to understand God’s word and apply it to life’s circumstances. Rev 4:11 and the squirrel.

The word of knowledge.

I believe the Holy Spirit imparts the word of knowledge to a believer in the past or present tense. One time I was studying and a guy came up to me and I just told him something, after he asked me if I had time to talk with him. The look on his face was jaw dropping. He said his sister just told him that yesterday. It was confirmation for him.

Some may say it is the ability to speak God’s truths with the revelation to bring forth God’s deeper meanings.

Faith

Faith, I believe here that this is an additional level of faith that gives you the confidence to do God’s will. For instance, You may have felt God call or impress on you to pray for someone, go ask the person to church, tell them I love them or maybe pray for their healing. At that moment you my feel confident that God was going to heal or do a miracle for that person. This is a gift of faith, e.g. [Guy at church I prayed for his back.].

Gifts of Healing

Healing I believe God heals today. Especially when He gets all the glory. There are too many accounts of overseas healings where God has been introduced to people and God has down a miraculous healing. There was a guy I knew who wanted to travel up the Mississippi River to preach the word of God, but he said his back hurt. Like most men I figured it must be the typical lower back problem, the L4 and L5. Several weeks later a sat behind him in church and I felt God wanted me to pray for him. I reached over the pew and touched his middle back on either side of his spine. Another week went by and I asked him how is back was. He said he went to the doctor and there was nothing wrong with it. I said you know I prayed for your healing in chruch. He said yea did you feel my back move right were you touched me. I was surprised. First I thought it was his lower back. And second I did not feel anything move, and lastly why didn’t he say anything that day. He just got up and left after service. But those questions should not have been an issue. God healed the man after He led me to pray for His healing. Glory be to God.

Workings of Miracles

A working of dunamos power. Miraculous power that cannot be explained be natural wisdom. The raising of the dead, bones being mended, the lame walk, the blind hear, the deaf hear. God can give us the faith to believe and when we step out in faith at the Holy Spirit’s unction anything is possible for God. Glory be to God.

Prophecy

Prophecy is the forth telling or foretelling of the will of God. Today we see more forth telling for the purpose as Paul wrote in Chapter 14. “But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. (1 Corinthians 14:3 KJV). Therefore when the Holy Spirit gives the gift of prophecy to a believer, the prophecy should edify, exhort (i.e. admonish or encourage) or comfort the hearer.

Discerning of spirits

The Holy Spirit helps us to discern the truth. Satan is the great deceiver. He will throw anything close to the truth at you so you will believe a lie. You only have to be 1 degree off from earth to the moon and you will miss it by miles who knows maybe thousands of miles or more. The Gnostic’s were trying to deceive many Christians in the Apostle John’s day. He Wrote;

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:1-4 KJV)

The Holy Spirit can lead us into truth by helping us discern spiritual matters with spiritual matters. Look to the word of God.

Tongues and interpretation of tongues

The Holy Spirit can give us gifts to speak an earthly or heavenly language. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:1-2 KJV).

This is the beginning of the love chapter. But Paul said “though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels”, here are the two distinguishing languages. Paul later admonishes the Corinthians for their unruly worship services by giving them guide lines to follow as they were all speaking in tongues and most without an interpretation.

The interpretation was necessary to edify those who heard. Without the interpretation the utterance was without meaning, for there was no edification, exhortation or comfort to those who heard it. Paul said, “If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.” In (1 Corinthians 14:27 KJV).

God has given us His divine nature. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1:4 KJV)

His Divine nature, and other parts of the Bible it is transliterated as the Godhead. Certainly He that dwells in me is greater than he who dwells in the world.

Let us begin to walk as children of God ready to meet Jesus at every turn. Excepting to join in and see God move for His glory and purpose. To reconcile the world back to God through us in Jesus Name, amen.

In Christ,

Greg

6 Pithy and Profound Resignation!

Resignation!

Who would think of it! If someone resigns it is like saying “I quit!” But I have found a blissful joy in resigning to God’s will. God our loving Father only wants the best for us. For example if your earthly parent tells you not to play in the street, is it because he or she does not want you to have fun? No, it is because they do not want to see you get hurt in any way. So it is with our heavenly Father.

When we resign to God’s will we are yielding to His will for our lives. John 10:10 says;

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10 KJV)

God wants us to live a more abundant life. The alternative is we yield to a thief. That thief is usually ourselves, when we refuse to resign our pride takes over and we miss out on God’s blessings. We usually end up hurting ourselves, it would be like playing in traffic on a major interstate.

What do you think? Play in traffic or resignation? Something to think about.

In Christ,

Greg

Holy Spirit He is our guide, Part 4a

The Holy Spirit is given to believers to glorify God. In this devotion I will try to point out how the Holy Spirit guides us to be witnesses for Christ as our: Comforter, teacher and coach from John chapters 13-16.

Through Christ’s finished work; His death, burial, resurrection and ascension we are able to receive the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 16:7 that it was profitable for us that He goes away (meaning He was going back to heaven. But He was not going to leave us without His presence! He was going to send the seal of the New Covenant, the Holy Spirit.) The Holy Spirit is our comforter and seal of our contract (see John 16:7 and Ephesians 1:13-14).

The Holy Spirit is now the Kingdom of God on earth living in every true believer (Luke 17:21). When Christ was here on earth He was limited to one physical place, but now the Holy Spirit can be everywhere in every believer.

Jesus begins to teach the disciples in John chapters 13-16 about being servants, His departure, a new commandment (Love John 13:34; 15:12, 17), greater works (John 14:12), the Holy Spirit and much more.

After Jesus explained to the disciples how He would abide in them and would not leave them comfortless but would give them a Comforter (John 14:1-21). Judas asked Jesus how he would manifest himself to them and not the world, in John 14:22. This begins a sermon on the Holy Spirit and the opposing stance of the world. I am only going into the discourse of the Holy Spirit here. First He will abide in us, verse 23 and what His ministry is in 14:26; 15:26, 27 and 16:7-15.

But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:26-27 MKJV)

The Comforter is the Holy Spirit. The Greek word is parakletos,  par-ak’-lay-tos; meaning an intercessor, consoler:–advocate, comforter. It can also mean coach, teacher and so much more. We can see in verse 26 that He will be our teacher for He will teach us all things. He will also bring all things Jesus has said to our remembrance and this includes the words in the Holy Bible. Certainly this will bring us peace. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7 KJV). This verse tells me to grasp ahold of the peace of God not fear; so, “Let your heart not be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. (John 15:26-27 KJV)

The Holy Spirit testifies of Jesus Christ. He is called the Spirit of truth. We can see this in so many verses e.g., the truth is in Jesus (Ephesians 4:21), Thy word is truth (John 17:17), Jesus is the word (John 1:1, 14; 1 John 1:1-3) Thy word is true (Psalms 119:160). The Holy Spirit will bring to your remembrance God’s word for it is truth and testifies of Jesus Christ our Saviour. When we testify we are bearing witness.

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient [or profitable] for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: {reprove: or, convince}. Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. (John 16:7-15 KJV)

I have highlighted six points in verses 7-15: sin, righteousness, judgement, guide, show and glorify. The first is sin because those who know not Jesus do not know the truth. They are walking around unaware of their misguided actions. Just the presence of Jesus could change the atmosphere. If Jesus walked into the room right now I am almost certain anyone with the smallest amount of goodness in them would cease from sin and be convicted of their thoughts, words, and deeds. Now the Holy Spirit’s presence is the convicting atmospheric pressure which convicts the world of godly truth.

The second reason Jesus explains is of righteousness. Righteous because He was leaving and we know there is none righteous no not one as Romans 3:10 tells us. But Jesus is called righteous and if we know he is righteous then true believers will walk in righteousness (1 John 2:1, 29).Righteousness can be another sermon in itself but how would we know about it without the presence of the Holy Spirit and God’s word? The Holy Spirit will bring righteous truths to our conscience.

The third is judgment, to reprove or convince. This is not the judgment of condemnation, but the discernment of what is right. If you look at a tree with apples on it you would call it an apple tree. Why? Because you know what an apple is and this tree has apples growing on it therefore I judge or distinguished from its fruit what kind of tree it is. The Holy Spirit is come because the prince of this world is judged. Satan the opposite of truth must be bright in front of truth so we can all distinguish or judge what is true and what is false.

The next point is “the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak”. The Holy Spirit is our guide into all truth. He speaks what He hears from Jesus, the Word, and from God’s written word, the Holy Bible. When we use the word of God as our plum line, (ruler or absolute truth), we will be able to judge, (to reprove, distinguish or convince) ourselves of the truth. Listen to the Holy Spirit, our guide unto all truth and the paths of righteousness.

The Holy Spirit will also show you things to come. This is the word of wisdom a gift of the Holy Spirit which will be in the next section, the gifts of the Holy Spirit. One example is when Peter was on the roof top praying and

“the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them. Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come? And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee. Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.” (Acts 10:19-23 KJV)

The Holy Spirit told Peter three men were seeking him and there they were. That is definitely showing you things to come.

The last thing here is He will glorify Jesus. This is important. The Holy Spirit is pointing to Christ, to glorify God the Son and God the Father, not me or you. If you believe the Holy Spirit is saying something to you ask yourself, will this glorify God? The Holy Spirit is receiving from Jesus to give to His children spiritual guidance that will glorify Jesus. This is Kingdom work glorifying God and being a witness for Christ. You were saved unto good works (Ephesians 2:8-10).

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. {ordained: or, prepared} (Ephesians 2:8-10 KJV)

You were saved unto good works which God has before ordained for you to walk in. Listen to the Holy Spirit and you shall find the joy and peace of the Lord.

The Holy Spirit will equip you as He wills. He will give you gifts and nurture your character. Philippians 1:6 says,

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: {perform: or, finish} (Philippians 1:6 KJV)

5 – Pithy and Profound Do as I say not as I do.

Do as I say not as I do.

Have you ever heard that before? I have.  My father used to tell me this all the time when I would say, “Well you do it, or that’s what you do.” Then I would hear, “Do as I say not as I do.” Why do people say this? I think it is because they do not want to give up a habit or something they might conceive as pleasurable.

Let us look at a Biblical example. Matthew chapter 23.

Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. “Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. (Matthew 23:1-3 NKJV)

“Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do.” Is this not the same as “Do as I say not as I do?” Jesus went on to tell the people about the things the scribes and Pharisees were doing for all the wrong reasons and eventual begin a list of Woes! “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!”

Even Jesus tells us to do as they say not as they do. They are actually words of wisdom.

The second thing Jesus points out is “but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do.” This is hypocritical. Do you want to follow a hypocrite?

So the next time you here Do as I say not as I do, think about the consequences of your actions if you would follow those who, do not do as they say.

In Christ,

The Holy Spirit and you Part 3

The Holy Spirit lives in your heart and places the desires of God in your heart.

Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. (2 Corinthians 3:3 KJV)

As we grow and mature in our Christian walk we should change from faith to faith and from glory to glory. Our walk should begin to look more and more Christ like. It all starts from within. The Holy Spirit Who resides in each of our hearts acts as our Lord, our coach, our leader and our divine guide. Most of the time it is the still small voice which speaks to our conscience pointing the way into God’s truth, desires and will. When you hear His voice or feel His impression upon your heart do you listen? Do you ask yourself “Is that God or me, is this my will or God’s will, what would Jesus do, or what does the Bible say?” These are all good questions if you’re unsure. We need to reflect on the word of God and Jesus Christ while refracting His glory through the facets of God’s truth in which He has shaped our godly character. Each facet may represent the fruit of the Spirit or a Christ like character that can shine forth to others and comfort them through your testimonies. Let us so shine forth as lights in this world refracting God’s glory to others as we listen and obey the Holy Spirit

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:18 KJV)

If you are a Christian you have a ministry. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit,[i.e. to know] that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and has committed unto us the word of reconciliation. {committed…: Greek. put in us} Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Corinthians 5:17-21 KJV)

And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry; (1 Timothy 1:12 KJV)

God “has committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ.” Go therefore and reconcile others back to God as ambassadors for Christ. Let your light so shine the glory and joy of our LORD. Usher in God’s Shekinah glory.

In Christ,

Greg
