 Realize / Deeper Christian life

We fall short and then kick ourselves. Even the disciples came up short at Gethsemane.

Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. (Matthew 26:38-41 KJV)

Even though they had failed, Jesus tells them in verse 46 “Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.” (Matthew 26:46 KJV)

Let’s go or some may now say, “let’s roll”. We must not let our past failures dictate or corrupt our future actions for the work of God’s kingdom. First realize we must trust Him and His finished work, put down our failures and short comings and move on to the next thing God has for us.

Arise, let us go on to the next thing Jesus calls us to do… Let’s roll!

Get deeper into God’s word His presence by setting time apart for God. Andrew Murray said concerning the Heavenly life that the Christian worker must know who we are in Christ. We are hidden in Christ Jesus and we are one in Christ as He is one in the Father. The same life that Christ lives in the Father lives in us. If you want this intimate heavenly life to become real to you then set aside a “Secret daily quiet time and meditation to keep alive the spiritual life given to us after conversion and the regeneration of the Holy Spirit. We will die to self and life for, by, and in Christ; then we will enjoy walking with God and experience a life of holiness and love.”

Realize that there is a deeper walk with Jesus. Do not let the past rule you, but live a life of repentance and move on to the Heavenly lifestyle God calls for you. “Let’s roll” for the Kingdom of God.

In Christ,

Greg

 Believe and Receive

How many people have believed the Gospel and received salvation? How many of these people received salvation and never received the fullness of God’s grace in all areas of life?

Jesus has all the riches or graces God has for us? “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19 KJV) “And of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.” (John 1:16 KJV) Grace for grace, blessings upon blessings. God riches should fill our lives with his goodness in salvation, sanctification, healings, miracles, faith, love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, temperance, word, thought, and deeds. Jesus is our all and all.

So how many of you stopped receiving God’s grace and blessings after you received Jesus Christ as your Saviour for eternal salvation? Many men of old have experienced God’s gifts of healing and spiritual experiences which intensified their walk with God. They began to press in to find the blessings of God’s love and joy for His children.

Press in and draw near to God and He will draw near to you, James 4:8…

If you do not believe remember, “he, [Jesus],  did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” (Matthew 13:58 KJV)

What are you believing in? God or the things of the world?

In Christ,

Greg

If ye love me, keep my commandments. (John 14:15 KJV)

Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. (John 15:14 KJV)

1Jo 2:3 ¶ And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

1Jo 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

1Jo 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

1Jo 3:24 And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

1Jo 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

1Jo 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

2Jo 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.

Are you walking in the light of God’s word? Keeping His commandments is dwelling in Him, Loving Him and saying I am a friend of God. In doing so we become pleasing in God’s sight.

Walk in His word, His Light and be Right.

Greg

Lent

“Lent (Latin: Quadragesima: Fortieth) is a solemn religious observance in the liturgical calendar that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends approximately six weeks later, before Easter Sunday. The purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, doing penance, repentance of sins, almsgiving, atonement, and self-denial.”

From old English and the word lent referred to the spring season in which the days become longer and lighter. If we think of it these forty days of Lent is preparing me for the celebration of the Resurrected Christ. As each day goes by the days are getting longer which means more light is shining into our lives.

Jesus is our Light and each day that we draw closer to Him we are allowing more light into our hearts. If we are repenting from our sins the darkness is being pushed out by Jesus’ glorious light giving life and forgiveness. Thus, freeing us from the darkness of this world and now walking in His life-giving light.

May you use this to remember to put off the old nature this season while putting on the new nature of Jesus Christ as the Passover (Easter) approaches so you can celebrate with a pure heart the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the ultimate gift of eternal life.

 Life or Life insurance

Life or life insurance?

Are you walking in the Victorious Life with Jesus or did you receive Him as a life insurance policy?

Did you accept Jesus as your personal Savior and then walk right back into the world just to live like you never received Him in the first place? This is the idea of, I do not want to go to hell, I need life insurance. You may even think that the policy reads, Accept Jesus as your Savior and receive eternal life in case you die from accidental death, inclement or hazardous weather, car, boating, aircraft accidents, terrorist attacks or any reason you may die. Oh no, when that day comes you may say, “Lord, Lord, open for us,’ and He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you, where you are from,’ “then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets.’ “But He will say, ‘I tell you I do not know you, where you are from. Depart from Me, all you workers of iniquity.’ (Luke 13:25-27 NKJV)

Our spiritual experience should be a perpetual growth process where you walk with Jesus and become more like Christ. The more you learn about God’s word, the more you will want to align yourself with God’s word because you will find the blessings in His word. This is a Victorious lifestyle.

So how are you living? Are you living with what you might think is a life insurance policy, or, are you living in a Victorious lifestyle receiving the blessings of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? If you said the latter, then you are living in the insurance of life eternal now and forever.

 Sanctification

Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes, I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. (John 17:17-19 KJV)

Jesus Christ is our sanctifier, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:” {perform: or, finish} (Philippians 1:6 KJV)

Jesus is working in us, but are we trusting and obeying? Are you prepared to give up the worldly ways and its desires to be Christ-like? Is this not your goal to be Christ-like?

If so, then we must sanctify ourselves with God’s word. “Sanctify them through Your truth: Your word is truth.” Jesus is our example and He sanctified Himself with truth so that we “also might be sanctified through the truth.” Therefore, we must find and follow the truth. When we find some application in God’s word the opposes our current way of life, know that God is saying, sanctify yourself for my word is truth. Jesus says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15 KJV) Do you really love Jesus or the world? When we choose to trust, and obey God’s word we begin to walk down a narrow path, setting aside worldly desires for godly living. The world’s path is broad and the way therein is destructive.

“’Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.” (Matthew 7:13-17 NKJV)

Which path are you on? Selah…

The Goodness of Sin

The goodness of sin? Where could sin be good? If it were not for the knowledge of sin, (missing the mark of perfection), you would not have known that you needed a Saviour! Sin’s goodness then is the acknowledgement of needing help where we fall short of God’s glory. When we fall short we realize we need to get back on track. If you were on a trail and wondered away from the beaten path you could find yourself in the perils of the wilderness. You would come to a point in which you would say, “I need to get back to the trail before it gets too late and the sun goes down.” Sin is the reminder that we are off the narrow way and we are walking away from the Son. Sin reminds us we need to pray, we need to line up with God’s word, we need to turn from the things of this world and get back on the narrow way, to a blessed spiritual path where Jesus shines on us with blessings. So, if you think of sinful thoughts or find yourself walking into the brier off the narrow way, thank God for the goodness of the conviction of sin and get back on the narrow way before the Son comes back again. Get right with God!

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9 KJV)

English as a Second Language

Greg’s Blog: English as a Second Language

Last week we scratched the surface about starting a class for English as a Second Language, ESL. This week we are going to look at what it would take to start an ESL class here in our church. First, we must consider our location and demographics. When we look at statistical data relating to the population and particular groups within it in our surrounding areas what do we see? Is it multicultural? The Villages have people moving here from all over the United States and speak different languages. What about our Church, can you see a multicultural audience? I do. So what do we need to start reaching out to our community? How about an ESL class?

It will take planning. We must decide if we are going to teach English as an evangelization tool or just a social service. Then we must put a team together. We will need an administrator to establish and direct the program. A strong lead teacher and other teachers who will be willing to teach or substitute.

The administrator and teachers will have to put together a curriculum, decide how many classes and their levels, the duration of the classes, and whether or not to charge for them. The administrator will also need to provide some basic training for some teachers. Maybe a course on ESL, SLA or TESOL may be needed for some teachers. A kit of teaching tools that could be borrowed such as lesson plans, exercises, flash cards or other activities in case a teacher does not show up for any reason.

Pre-think what to expect as far as students’ needs. Research must be done to find out where community resources can be found. The program needs to be ready to answer questions such as:

* How do I gain citizenship?

* How do I enroll my child in school?

* How do I obtain a copy of legal paperwork?

* How do I obtain health care?

* Where do I go to register a vehicle?

* How do I apply for employment?

Pre-think the what if’s. What if they bring their children to learn English too? What if they need child care or transportation? What answers will the church give them?

When everything is ready to go the church needs to take some more steps like advertising and pre-registration. Advertising can be done with flyers, word of mouth, internet or the local paper. A date for pre-registration needs to be set and if the church knows anyone who speaks a foreign language they need to invite them to help communicate and register new students. Next the church will have to determine the level of English the student will be in, beginning, intermediate, or advanced, (this will also be determined by the courses available). When determining the class student some questions to ask may be:

* How long have you been speaking English?

* Have you studied English in school? If so, for how long?

* Do you use spoken and/or written English in your job?

* What can you tell me about your family?

* What can you tell me about this picture [any common scene]?

If the students cannot answer basics questions, then they should be in the beginning class. If they have studied some English and can speak simple sentences, then intermediate classes would be good for

them and so on. Sometimes self-selection based on their personal assessment maybe appropriate.

Class structure should be the same. A handout of the basic class schedule with key contact persons and basic procedures should be handed out the first day and made available to everyone. This may turn into class advertisements. Plan on starting with announcements and an opening prayer. This will prepare them for other church programs like Bible Study or Sunday services. Maintain flexibility is another key. The only thing that does not seem to change is change itself. In other words, be ready for change. Students may drop out, drop in, miss classes and return later.

Other plans will be times for breaks and fellowship. Plan a party at the end of the class. Invite the whole church to help out support and build relationships with them. Relationships are one reason why you started this program. The other is to introduce them to Christ and you cannot do that without a relationship. Once they finish their class encourage them to go to Bible study or a discipleship class in English so they can continue to use and practice the English language.

In Christ,

Greg

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8 NKJV)

Can you hear the call of God? Isaiah was privy to a vision from God and when God said “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Isaiah’s heart ring out, “Here I am! Send me.” Can you hear the call of God on your heart?

As Christians, we are commanded to, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, “teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV) Are you obeying God’s commandment?

Hear the call to “go”, in whatever compacity the Holy Spirit puts on your heart to share the good news of Jesus Christ to others. You may be planting a seed or watering a seed that another has planted for the Kingdom of God so God can make an increase in that person’s life. Oh, the joy when someone enters into God’s Kingdom from the deceitful lost kingdom of Satan.

Go, and reap the harvest for it is great and will spoil if it is not gathered for God…

Faith, Hope, and Love

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1 KJV)

True faith in God is believing what His word says and standing on the promises and covenants He has proclaimed unto us. If we truly believe God’s word then we will do what we believe, that is, we will be obedient to His word. The word “substance” here is the confidence of things God has promised. Therefore, the things hoped for is not a maybe, but a yes and an amen. Biblical hope is knowing what God loves us and what He has said will come to pass.

If we doubt, we are saying, I fear that it will not happen or come to pass. Fear steals our faith and replaces the biblical hope for the present-day hope, which is a wishful thinking, no confidence in the end results. Stand on God’s word and Who God says He is. He is faithful, His word is truth, He is not a man that He should lie, God is Sovereign, and we live in His Providence. Stand and believe God even if there seems to be no evidence. Remember perfect love casts out fear.

God is love and He loves us. This is an agape love, an unconditional love that says, while you were yet sinners Christ died for you. God made a way where there was no earthy way for us to redeem ourselves. If god loves us this much we should have faith in Him, hope in our eternal life, and love for Him. God has first cast out the fear of death through His perfect love to give us faith and an everlasting hope, as we are “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;” (Titus 2:13 KJV).

“God [is] not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do [it]? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19).

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV)

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (1 John 4:8).

Our hope is in You, Lord. Our faith is in You, Lord. Help us to love like You, Lord.

In Christ,

Greg
