“Then cometh He to His disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners” (Matthew 26:45 KJV).
The disciples went to sleep while Christ was in prayer with His Father, saying “not my will, but Your will be done.” The third time Jesus found His disciples asleep he said “Sleep on now, and take your rest” The time had come and the time for prayer was over and His disciples heard; Sleep on now.
Jesus prayed for us in John chapter 17, and we are to go out and do good works (Ephesians 2:10). Are you listening to God’s word? Are you applying and practicing your faith? Would Jesus say to you, “sleep on, now the time has come and you have not done the will of God”, or are you going to hear “Well done good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many, enter into the joy of Your Lord…”
If you truly believe in God’s word your actions will reflect what you believe, because we do what we believe and you are what you do. Check yourself and ask, what am I doing and it will tell you what you believe.
If we are not doing God’s will, we are sleeping. Christ is counting on you and me to go and make disciples of all nations and to teach them all the things that Jesus commanded. I hope you will hear when Jesus comes to you, well done good and faithful servant and not sleep on now.
In Christ,
Greg
