The Same State

But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. (Matthew 11:16-17 KJV)

Whereunto shall I liken this generation? Jesus compared the generation around Him almost 2000 years ago to those that did not dance when they heard the good news of salvation in which He “piped”; and to those who did not lament (a passionate expression of grief) when He mourned over their state viz., their sinful nature.

Today people call good bad and bad good. The celebrate sin through wine song and immorality. They do not mourn over sin even when they are told sin can destroy their own soul, e.g. “But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul” (Proverbs 6:32 KJV). Neither when they hear the gospel of Christ Jesus do the find any reason to jump for joy and dance to the truth. But the dance to a different pipe or music which leads them down the paths of destruction. It’s a death wish, Thanatos. It’s a self-destructive lifestyle because they are missing Christ in their lives. They are walking dead men. Zombies in this world, having no real hope, and no satisfaction. Therefore they look for temporary fulfillments which never fill the void just to get by.

Can you see this generation is in the same state? Let us pipe the good news maybe one will mourn at his lost condition and begin to dance in the light and truth of the gospel.

In Christ,

Greg
